This will be my final post to this blog for this Visual Communication Design History class. I enjoyed researching new designs (to me) throughout the last couple of weeks! I definitely learned a lot about Early Modernism and will look back on this blog as a reference!
The final design I will be discussing is a magazine page created by Herbert Bayer called Vogue: Women in Coats, Airplane, and Arrows. This magazine page is an example of Early Modern design because of how the photographs are arranged. In this design, Bayer makes it so that the women in coats are larger than the airplane. When I first saw this design in particular, I couldn't help but notice the way the arrows are portrayed. Some are in "waves", and others are forming a swirl-like pattern. The arrangement of arrows creates an interesting design aspect, by drawing the viewer's attention to the women.
Vogue: Women in Coats, Airplane, and Arrows is important to the world of Early Modernism because of the idea that Bayer made the women in this design the central focal point, being that this was meant for Vogue magazine. Just because the poster was created in the 1940s, it does not mean that it wasn't inspired by Early Modernism. There are probably still many examples of the movement in today's designs, which is important to the history of graphic design.
