Detmold

My first post of the day is based on a brochure design called Detmold created by Herbert Bayer. Detmold is an example of Early Modern design because of the simple idea of including a couple of images and creating a way to make an intriguing design. The man at the upper right of the design is more prominent than the other figure towards the left of the brochure. Bayer seems to only use one typeface throughout the entire design. He also includes basic colors: black, white, gray, and yellow. Being that this design was created in the 1930s, this was more of the beginning of Early Modernism. While this may have been a simple design, there was not much experimentation happening at the time.
Detmold is important to the Early Modernism movement because this is a great example for graphic designers to look back on to see what kinds of ideas to expect during the 1930s and begin the experimenting process in the future. To not be afraid to "break the rules" and try something new.
