The Siad

06/30/2023 (Post 1)

For my first post of the day, I will be discussing a poster design created by none other than Tom Eckersly. All information relating to this design and Tom Eckersly will be located in the links below.

This poster is (what I believed to be) called The Siad. This design is an example of Early Modern Design because of how typography is used as a design element instead of a text element. The question mark shown has multiple colored shapes to make the question mark look interesting. The paragraph located at the bottom right of the poster creates a minimal and clean look to the design as well. The photograph of a man is perfectly spaced to not only be an important aspect to the design, while also Eckersly making the decision to appreciate white space more.

The Siad is important in the world of Early Modernism because of what I have mentioned about the question mark being created as a design element. This traces back to my first graphic designer mentioned, Jan Tschichold. He creates bold type in order to add more type on top of the bold letter in question. All of the graphic designers that I have mentioned thus far have important reasons to Early Modernism that are unique to their own style and choice of work. No two graphic designers that I have researched are the exact same at all. Everyone is unique in their own way, and that is exactly what Early Modernism is about!
