Stow Tools Safely (Think of the Man Below)

06/21/2023 (Post 1)

For my first post of the day, I found research on a "new" graphic designer, Tom Eckersley. Tom became well known during the 1930's. Over time, he became a great influence in poster design. Eckersley worked with companies like London Transport (all of this information can be found in the source at the end of this post).

This poster, Stow Tools Safely (Think of the Man Below), is an example of Early Modern design because of how illustration became a lot more realistic to photographs. Technology has been advancing for all of history, and even though the computer has not been invented quite yet, there are still technological advances being made in the graphic design industry.

Eckersley's poster is important to Early Modernism because of the constant shift that we, as people, see through out many years and movements in the realm of graphic design. Graphic Designers like Eckersley work to see what is expected (and maybe even not expected) from society and experiment with how and where information may be placed. Even though Early Modernism lasted until around the 1930s, there are still characteristics being shown through this design like the geometric shapes of the hammer and the flooring beneath it.
