Noreen

One of the graphic designers I chose for today is Herbert Bayer. Herbert had many paths within his career which include "graphic designing, sculpturing, photography, painting, architect, exterior and interior designing and art direction". He eventually tried to create his own typeface, but for some reason, did not work out (can be found in the source at the end of this article).
The design example above is called Noreen. This poster seems to be an advertisement for hair dye, and this makes sense because of the slogan on the design which says "It's COLOR that makes your hair beautiful". Something that I appreciate about this design in particular is that Bayer uses the same type family as I mentioned about Jan Tschichold's work. This design decision helps create a uniform and professional outlook on the design. The light colored background helps to bring out the color of the hair pieces more, to help give emphasis on the advertisement.
Noreen is an example of Early Modern Design because of the woman photographed, along with each of the hair pieces to show the vibrant colors that the hair dye is able to achieve. I believe that the woman photograph is used because hair dye was up to beauty standards, which at the time was focused more on the women in society.
