Inspect Daily
06/30/2023 (Post 2)
My second post for today is one final design created by Tom Eckersly. This poster design is called Inspect Daily.
Inspect Daily is an example of Early Modern design because of Eckersly only including a small amount of design elements to create an advertisement that would be important to society for years to come. The largest element in this poster design is the hammer, which is illustrating what can happen if you don't work safely in the work place. He is advising people to make sure you check your tools before you begin your work. Something interesting that I caught while viewing this design is the fact that Eckersly include italic type. This discovery was something new in my research. The small faded circle is emphasizing the damage that is being done to the hammer since it is destroyed at the spot the circle is in. "Prevent loose heads" is the tagline, essentially telling people to be extremely careful.
This poster is important for Early Modernism because of my new discovery with the typography that Eckersly chooses for his design. Because he created a design using only italic text, it shows other designers that there options out there concerning different types of typography to choose from.
