Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge

06/23/2023 (Post 2)

My final post for the day is based on a design created by El Lissitzky. El was a Russian Graphic Designer. According to the source at the end of the article, "Lissitzky's work spanned the media of graphic design, typography, photography, photomontage, book design, and architectural design. The work of this cerebral artist was a force of change, deeply influencing modern art including the De Stijl artists and Bauhaus instructors."

This poster can be an example of Early Modern design because of the geometric, clean shapes that are included. Also, because of the typography that is displayed appears to be geometric just like the shapes. Every piece of the design is minimalistic, but yet chaotic at the same time. Even though this poster is based on symbolism from the Russian Army (can be found under image information), these characteristics listed also prove this design to be a part of Early Modernism.

Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge is important to Early Modernism because of the chaotic amount of shapes that are presented, while also creating a minimalistic view on the work itself. There is plenty of white space, also the shapes and text are occupying the space in various colors, which was something that designers were trying out in many different ways in the Early Modernism period.
