A Subway Poster Pulls

My first post of the day involves a graphic designer named Edward Mcknight Kauffer. Edward became a successful graphic designer in the 1920s and 1930s throughout Europe. He traveled to America to see Modernist art and got inspired to create. He made around 140 posters within his career alone (all of this information can be found in the source below).

This design is called A Subway Poster Pulls. The poster is an example of Early Modern design because of the photograph's shape being unique to the audience viewing the work, this characteristic is different within the early modern period because of the shape that was chosen for the photo. Also, because of the text that creates a geometric atmosphere within the work along with the shapes.

A Subway Poster Pulls is important to Early Modernism because of how Kauffer experiments with geometric shapes and the color scheme that is chosen for the black and white photograph as well. There could be multiple reasons why he made the decision to make some of the text different colors. It could be to give particular words emphasis, it could be for certain words to create meaning throughout the poster, etc. But in the end, Kauffer created a unique poster that is stunning and unique.
